I don't know how many times a day you feed her, but maybe just try twice a day. Also, if you want your kitty to get some excercise and you don't have time to play with her, you could put the food somewhere that she has to make an effort to get to it - like making her go up or down stairs.
P.S. Did you take her to the vet when she was a kitten? And if so, did the vet do an "FIV" test on her? Sometimes, kitties are born with this in which case, their metabolism and immune systems are not normal, and it could cause her to retain weight more easily. Its something you can't really treat, but even if the kitty has it, it could live a long and fulfilling life.

a certain color does not mean a cat will be fat or not. could be a metobolic condition, thyroid condition or just over weight. If concerned, take your cat to the vet
