i have never heard that but i do not believe the jehovah witness ways either.. i have listened to them before and they just take the scripture and interrupt it the way they want...i do not think there si anything with honoring our father or our mother.. one of the 10 commandments was to honor our father and our mother.. as far as christmas i think that it is just to put more joy in our childs life.. i also believe it teaches them to give and i do believe they should know the true meaning of christmas...but giving gifts just shows love for people.. i think sometimes some may take it to far and not have the lord in mind.. i was raised baptist and i had christmas but we also had scripts at church and i remember very happy times at church functions.. i married a man that did not believe in chirstmas trees, and he was really a very mean , abusive man.. i now love christmas and trees and lights.. my children now enjoy christmas and let there children have what they did not have.. and joyous memories of your childhood i think is very important...i do not think these holidays are something satan created at all.. remember in the bible when jesus was born all the shepherds and people that came with gifts for the baby jesus even in the manger in a barn...i do not like halloween myself and i think it is a dangerous night any more.. i do not celebrate witches or anything of that sort...i hope this has helped you some... i know of some churches that will not even talk to the jehovah witness people...

As A jehovah's Witness I can answer this myself. We do not celebrate holidays because they are not biblical practices. Nowhwere in the bible does it say that a chrisitan ought to celebrate father's day or any other holiday for that matter.
We follow the example that Jesus Christ set forth and if you read about his life, he too refrained from celebrating holidays.
If you have questions about Jehovah's Witnesses and and what we believe, I strongly urge you to ask us when we go knoking on your door, or visit the URL pasted at the bootm. WE ONLY HAVE ONE OFFICIAL WEBSITE, ANYTHING ELSE IS NOT OFFICIAL. RATHER, OFTENTIMES IT IS A DOG PILING THAT SOMEONE PLANS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT LIKE US.
In essence, we respect all religions and try to help out in as much as we can.
Then again, I can answer this because I am a Jehovah's Witness. I feel though, that placing your question on a forum where other people have a negative notion about us or perhaps do not understand our beliefs fully will cause them to either stir controgversy or give you falsified information.
Either way, if you ever ever ever have any questions including this one, the official website to visit is
http://www.watchtower.org/
Perhaps this way you will assure yourself of the real answers before other people try to give you falsified information about us.
The fact that we do not celebrate Father's day does not mean that we do not honor our parents. On the contrary, we observe the scripture of Ephesians 6:1 where it encourages one to honor and respect both your father and your mother. As a matter of factm we focus on doing this not just once a year, where most parents expect affection, but every day, as God has commanded.
We too believe and treasure joy in children. Many people that back stabb us for not celebrating Christmas don't realize that we do not only refrain from celebrating Christmas because it is a pagan holiday but also because it involves lying. Telling a child that a man named Santa will hop down the chimeney and leave presents only devastates a child when they find out that it isnt true. In addition to that, the bible mentions that "the father of all lies is Satan the Devil" and well...who wants to emulate him.
As I mentioned before (and noticed in some of the responses to your question), you are better off asking us personally or visiting the site. Either way you will see, that our belieffs are 100% backed off by the scriptures and if someone cannot prove to you a belieff using the scriptures, feel welcomed to disregard it.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to celebrate Christmas, birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, or any other holidays, claiming they all have pagan roots.
Witnesses do celebrate one holiday - the "Memorial of Christ's Death," which occurs at roughly the same time as Christian Easter and the Jewish Passover. This holiday is acceptable because it was instituted by Christ himself. The Memorial is the one time during the year in which the Lord's Supper is observed. The most recent Memorial of Christ's Death was held on April 4, 2004.

1. Jehovah God is not a Trinity True 2. The doctrine of the Trinity is inspired by Satan True 3. Jesus Christ is a created being, who at one time did not exist (a.k.a.Michael the archangel) True 4. The Holy Spirit is not a person but is "God's active force" i.e. gravity, electricity etc. True 5. Heaven is only for select Jehovah's Witnesses In a sense, true. There are most before we took the name"Jehovah's Witnesses" but they served that function. 6. Heaven is limited only to 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses See 5. 7. Jehovah's Witnesses are the only true Christians Very true 8. There is no Hell (It is simply the grave) True 9. There is no life after death (except for the 144,000) False. 10. Salvation is by good works not by Grace False 11. Jesus did not rise from the dead bodily but as a spirit being True 12. You are discouraged from attending college False. Your own good sense discourages university attendance. 13. The "first resurrection" occurred in 1918 As far as we can tell, the first heavenly resurrection occurred then. 14. Only Jehovah's Witnesses can understand the Bible Reality demonstrates that. 15. Jesus'second coming occurred in 1914 (only known to Jehovah's Witnesses) False. It is not a second coming. It is his enthronement in the kingdom of the heavens. He only came back to his disciples by resurrecting them.

the simple answer is no.
holidays are simply not supported by any Bible text. In addition, they normally are tied to nationalistic or non-christian traditions.
Before becoming a witness, i used to celebrate all those holidays...
Certainly at first there is a feeling of peer-pressure because it seems EVERYONE in society celebrates something every few weeks. Now that i know the truth of their source it has certainly brought much freedom.
There is freedom from feeling obligated to buy gifts or honor a person on a specific day...or to receive them also. Why choose only one day a year to tell/show someone you care about them or appreciate them?
I much prefer the spontaneous gift-giving that me and my family have enjoyed for many years.

the holidays are all man made. we do not celebrate them. do you love your mother and father one day a week or everyday. 365 days a year? we don't celebrate Christmas because Jesus was not born on that day. we really don't know when Jesus was born but we know when he died. Jesus told us to celebrate his death which we do once a year on Nisan 14, the first day of the passover in the Jewish calender. all around the world in 235 lands we celebrate his death. we only worship Jehovah God. no flags or idols. we don't take blood, I would never take it even if I was not a Jehovah Witness. to many people have died from blood. we also give gifts to our children and our children give gifts to us parents all the time. we never miss out. you wait for a holiday to give a gift, we gift a gift because we love each other and our children respect us. one time I was in a store a child was crying and wanted a gift and the mother said wait until christmas. our children don't have to wait for any holiday that is pagan

Jehovah's Witnesses practice strict political and nationalistic neutrality, so they do not celebrate nationalistic holidays such as Independence Day and Memorial Day.
Other holidays derive from false religion, and so are incompatible with pure worship as adulterating interfaith. For example, Easter derives from the pagan god Oestre and celebrates "rebirth" and "fertility" instead of commemorating Christ's Last Supper and death as Jesus commanded:
(Luke 22:1-22) [Jesus] dispatched Peter and John, saying: “Go and get the passover ready for us to eat.” ...14 At length when the hour came, he reclined at the table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them: “I have greatly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I tell you, I will not eat it again until it becomes fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” ... Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”
Seemingly innocuous holidays may have only a tangential connection with false worship, such as Mother's Day and Father's Day (although arguably derived from ancestor worship). Understated observance of these is not generally considered interfaith by Jehovah's Witnesses, but it is too easily misunderstood in some cultures.
Since such celebrations are not required in true worship, and can easily become a distraction, so Jehovah's Witnesses focus their attention elsewhere. In particular, they are focussed on the preaching work which *IS* a requirement for Christians:
(Luke 10:1-17) [Jesus] the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovahs Witnesses believe that fathers day is of a pagan origin, and there for not christian. They follow the biblical verse that tells them to be 'seperate from the world' so they do not celebrate holidays that the rest of us do. They do celebrate weddings and aniversaries

They consider Christmas to be a pagan holiday. Since birthdays aren'y mentioned in the bible, they don't celebrate those either. Same fjor Father and Mopther's day,Halloween and easter. They only celebrate their wedding anniversary if they are married.

Practices that connote nationalism or false religion are avoided. Weddings, anniversaries, and funerals are typically observed; however, common celebrations and religious or national holidays such as Birthdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are regarded as unchristian and not celebrated.
