Sounds like his girlfriend likes to play mind games, mess with your head, etc., and he's had enough, especially in that kind of a dangerous situation.
He basically told you he considers you a true friend, then went and told his guys that you're his girlfriend (so they'd better treat you right...)
Since you apparently didn't catch that, it sounds like you have A LOT of thinking to do - is this really what you want? Do you want to have a boyfriend at all? I mean, are you ready to be with someone forever? If not, better to keep it just friends.
If you want to know why, find the nearest Bible and take a look at Matthew 19:3-6. Bottom line: once you've "hooked up", breakups aren't supposed to happen...
