First of all that guy's a jerk!!!

What we did was we helped the mama to be find her nest. Then we made it so only the mama could get out as she pleased. Usually a closet works, but you can use any room that is out of the way. Just cordon it off. We used a baby gate that was just tall enough for the mama to jump over.

After they are born or before if you want, use this site to do more, it goes in depth. Basically it is just like you would normally do for human baby's:

Make sure that you keep the floor clean. Otherwise the little rugrats will play with anything on the ground. I have this habit of leaving my socks on the ground or in my shoes. Needless to say I have lost many socks. I find them in intriguing places, like in the litter box. YUK!! lol And any wires need to be bundled, esspecially if you have stereo equipment or a computer. They have this habit of chewing them or using this area for an alternate litterbox.

Good Luck!!

Keep in mind that every single thing you own will become a toy - things you would never have imagined!

As for kitten-proofing, the best bet is just to block all the areas small enough for them to get into that you wouldn't necessarily be able to get them out of easily.

I had one once who climbed up to the top of my closet, pressed her head against the attic-access panel and went up there, then couldn't get out. We could hear her crying but couldn't find her for hours! They love to get into things you wouldn't imagine, like the box springs of a bed or couch - so make sure you have no tears in the fabric, because they'll find them. Sometimes there are openings back under a sink cabinet that will allow them to get into the walls of your house, and that's hard to get them out of, too.

You really have to look at things differently when you get a new kitten! Good luck!

Make sure they have their own space to get to if they are scared, they can go to it, which they probably will be when you bring them home. Hopefully they can't get any ducts of any kind, my brother's cat managed to climb down a furnace duct and he had a hard time getting her out in the basement. Also, if you buy small fingernail clippers, you can get them used to getting their front paw nails clipped. You can see where to clip, the quick of the nail should show as pink within the nail. Do not clip this, they will bleed. I just clip the tips of their nails, so they are not so sharp. This helps in case they want to scratch something (furniture). Also buy a scratching post made of carpet. My cats use it all the time, they have left the furniture alone. Also, leave their litter box in one place, use regular litter, not the sand kind.

If they are tiny you might want an enclosed area until they get a bit bigger. You'll be surprised at how they can find mischief in the oddest places! It's also easy for them to get stuck in small spaces, so you definately want a more confined, safe spot for them when you aren't home. And yes, lots of toys and a scratching post. you can train them to use the post by taking them to it and putting their paws against it gently making the scratching motion. You can actually very gently depress their paws so the claws come out and do this so they get the feeling of scratching. They will learn not to scratch other things if you train them to do this when they are young and provide them with a scratching post in every room they are in.

Good luck!

Cover furniture, put plants up high, have lots of toys, if you have fuzzy pens HIDE THEM!!! If you have hard wood or tiled floor get rugs because they like to run and tend to skid and sometimes hit the wall...poor things! Block places they can get stuck in! Get it a bell collar so you can find it if it gets stuck somewhere!

House plants seem to be particularly facinating. Make sure yours (if you have any) are non toxic and not easily tipped over. Also, watch for digging in the dirt in the pots.
Have fun

when you first get a cat, you need to make sure that you have more than one place in the house for kitty litter. They like to scratch things a lot so you should make sure that you have no expensive furniture around them, like wood or leather. make sure when they first come that they are introduced to there kitty litter. cats like carpet so they will pee on it. also they love jumping to high places, so all of your breakables , watch out.
