it says that they should be more like Christ is with the church. Unconditional with their love and strong in keeping their houses in order. That they are the head of their households and that they are to be loving to their wives and children. Jesus Christ taught, feed, ministered and urshered his people to what was right and stood up for them in right doing. He disciplined by showing people their wrong ways and corrected them in how to do things right. He loved everyone and never turned anyone away and was there when he was needed the most. May have not been when we wanted him, but he was ALWAYS right on time. That's the way that father's are suppose to be with their families and their lives. Read the whole New Testament through it will tell you all that you need to know.

The Bible looks at a earthly Father as a progenitor and provider for the Family, I think that there is not difference in the way the Bible sees as Father and Mother they are the two of then, as much important for our self's, us one to the other. and as Pinky El Pirate said, nor just respect but, "Honor Father and Mother".

Why do so many ask about what it says in the bible or koran, or any of the other religious books ? Wouldn't it be more senseable to just read the book ? Can laziness be that great ?

Curious though the Bible never mentions Joseph's death. You'd think that would be important in shaping Jesus life too.
