My Brother's birthday, father's day, and a work day. I started a new job three days ago, I really like it, don't get me wrong, but tonight I want to celebrate with my family. My mom refuses to let me take the night off. So they were thinking about postponing the dinner, but now they changed it back to tonight. What should I do?

It depends on what kind of business you work for. If you work for a business that takes calls often, turn off your phone at work and make all calls transfer to your cell phone. You can also stay updated on your website if you have one. Then go home and have a great time with your family.

It's the hardest part about growing up. You'll start to miss family dinners and celebrations.

Your Dad is probably very proud of you because you have a job and have taken responsibility for your life. Don't ruin Father's Day for him by not going to work, it'll make him wonder where he went wrong in raising you.

That's life hon, get over the fact that you can't be in 3 places at once.

When you know it's dinner time, call them and tell them how much you'd have loved to be there but you really want to make a good impression at your new job. You really look forward to seeing all of them soon. Happy Father's Day, dad....Happy Birthday, bro. Love ya, bye.

Don't be upset about it...there will be another family dinner for you to go to.

Sorry hon, but you wanted the job and I assume you knew the hours involved. Either work it or quit it and let someone who really wants it have it. Many, many times I wanted to be with my family and couldn't. Hey, why don't you plan a nice meal, just you, your brother and your father on a night off for you. You do the cooking just for them! I bet they really appreciate the effort, and on your day off too!

Work your job! I am a Dad, and my kids are working, but I would rather they work than take time off for me. You can spend time with the family when you're not working.
