I had a hard time making a decision between Air Force or Navy, but i think i'm going air force since i hear more good stuff about it. How cool is being a vehicle mechanic in the AF. Do you think they travel a lot?? What about Air craft mechanics, is that even cooler?? What are the chances that i will get the AF base i want?? I will like to stay in the Los Angeles base.

sorry for all the questions. THANK YOU!!

If you are really set on staying at LA AFB then I suggest trying to get a reserve position there. It is a small base and probably going to be really difficult to get stationed there. But then again, why would u want to join the military and stay home anyway? Go out, see the rest of the world.

As for being a vehicle mechanic, I believe that they deploy a lot. At a base I was at the vehicle mech's were constantly going to iraq. They were right along side with the army guys going out to fix vehicles that had broke anywhere and everywhere....If that's what you're looking for it would be a good job choice.

Aircraft mechanics would probably be pretty cool for you too. Depending on the type of aircraft you work on it would be a pretty busy job. U will definetely travel to nice places a lot more for exercises, competitions etc. As for jobs on the outside, I think having abilities to work on aircraft are going to get u a lot father than ability to work on cars, etc if you know what I mean!

You can pick your job at MEPS. Just think of it along the lines of which would make more money after they get out, the guy that changes your oil, or the guy that changes the tires on airliners. Further, a vehical mechanic in any service is getting deployed to Iraq.

On AF vrs. Navy, I'd go AF for a bunch of reasons, not least of which is tight quarters on a ship for six months at a time. The AF tends to deploy overseas for much shorter periods. Both do a good job taking care of their people, the Navy especially while aboard ship (trying to make up for the lack of space), the AF is best at it though.

You won't be staying near LA. You'll train & put in a request for duty station, but don't count on it.

YOGY, I wish you well in your military career. You will not go wrong with Air Force, any of the jobs you mentioned would be good, try to get training in what you like to normally do. As far as Base assignments, get your Recruiter put any thing in writing, but stay open minded, and be prepared to see the world. I am retired Navy, but will not try to talk you into that, you have to make the decision yourself. You are genuinely wished well, Military service can be very honorable.

You have to join the US Air Force first, go through basic training.
go thro Advanced Individual Training and ask for Vehicle Maintenance and you will go anywhere that you're needed.
Good Luck.
