Turn the body to a 'strong' 45 degree angle (so that the broad part of your body is away from the main light source)

Sit up straight (don't round your shoulders)

Be lit with what's called a modified loop (any professional photographer should know what that is) so that the light is across the face and grazing past your chest. The light should be feathered so that it glances off your face and not blasting the body.

This will produce beatiful photos without having to bring the camera above your face (and create that squatting look).

Also, closeups of your face and arms on a tony table will produce beautiful looks. Profile shots work out quite well also.

It's all in the way you are lit by the photographer. Not by what you wear or what you do.

make sure you slightly lower than the camera. Have them take the pictures at a downward angle.

cameras today are digtal, find your favorite subject and take at least 12-20 photos, then lay them on a table, or download them on your computor, you'll have 1-2 photos for your liking, thats why they call them proofs.
