Depends on the bar. Where I go 90% of what they serve are draft beers and the rest is mostly shots. They do a few mixed drinks like Margartas and Bloody Marys but it is not that skilled of a job. It's really about being a good host and being able to stay busy, keeping the customers happy and knowing who not to serve. Anyone can mix drinks, but being able to do very fast and consistantly and still smile can be a challenge. The best bartender I knew could have 20-30 drinks in tickets and she could have them all lined up for the waitresses to pick up in just a few minutes. Sometime a drink can mean popping a top off a beer and sometimes it can mean using a blender to make a frozen Margarita. It can be VERY good money for someone who is just 21. I wish I had done it when I was younger.

Bartending is fun. You need a good personality and sense of humor. But to be a great bartender you need to follow a few rules and stick to them. Never believe anything you hear, and only 1/2 of what you see. Never ever repeat something to other customers someone may have said to you when they were drinking. Is it hard? NO! Hands on is the best teacher. If you can find someone willing to train you, it's a great job. And good money. If your working in a nice place.

It doesn't have to be, especially if you're organized and personable. Don't waste your money on a bartending course. You can often pick up the skills you need on the job at a good restaurant. Be prepared to wait tables for while, though. Lots of places want you to start there first.

no, there are bartending schools all over the country that are usually only about $400. a lot of places will want you to become a server first before allowing you to bartend, however.

Bartending is 99% personality, and only 1% drink knowledge. Are you funny? Are you good-looking? Do you have interesting stories to tell? Can you give and receive sexual harrassment (all in good fun)? Can you multitask and remember an order consisting of 12 drinks or more? Anyone can remember how to make a drink.

Nope, my bartending course was two weeks and the test for the mixoligist license (given by the state) isn't too tough either. Good Luck!

that depends on how good a bartender you want to be, I've been doing it for 13 years and I can tell you about distilling methods, reigions of scotland more drinks than people wordwide drink, wines of the world, ect. personality helps but continued education is the difference between slinging beer and shots at your local dive, or being able to move worldwide and work at 5 star resorts. there's a huge money difference between the 2

No!!!!! It's easy. If you don't know how to make a drink, ask the customer, they are happy to help. If they know you're new, they will usually tip you BIG!! Especially if your hot!!
