Should really be made by a physician.
The suggestion of amoxicillin is not a good one - if someone is allergic to penicillin, they are "likely" allergic to all of the -cillin family. Could cause a sever anaphaxis reaction
Penicillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic and it is likely that any other given should be targeted to the specific organism being targeted.
For example gram positive bacteria would require a different antibiotic than gram negative - as would aerobic vs anerobic.

First of all, it depends on what bacteria is thought to be involved and the body part involved.
There is about a 10% chance that a person allergic to penicillin will react to Keflex and similar drugs. Drugs in the 2nd and 3rd generations of cephalosporins (such as ceftriaxone) are usually safe.

Someone said amoxacilin but that is a form of penicillin. Anything that ends in cilin bet you being allergic to it. There are too many other drugs to choose from depending on what bacteria they are trying to kill that could be the other drug they prescribe. Don't worry they have many to choose from and they work just as effectively.

Avoid amoxicillin and the cephalosporins; penicillin alternatives include vancomycin and fluoroquinolone.
Some people try to avoid all antibiotics and go an herbal route, using lots of garlic (antibiotic, antiviral), goldenseal (antibiotic), and myrrh (antibacterial, antifungal), among others.

I have chronic UTI's and my doctor prescribes Keflex (the generic is cephalexin) since I'm also allergic to penicillin.
DON'T USE amoxicillin, it's penicillin, too.

amoxacillin, that's what they give pregnant ladies because they don't know if the baby has an allergy to penicillin yet.
