Isuppose you mean ancient egyptian. One is the stylised position of the body, and another is the combination of profile and facing positions on the same picture. For example, a person is shown with the head in profile, as well as the legs, in order to show the characteristic image of walking and to give the concept of movement or procession, but the body is shown facing forth, which is the most characteristic view of a human torso.
