I hate it when I hear "Cut off the light.", "Mash the button." referring to a baseball catcher as a "hind catcher" or anytime someone uses the word "commode". Are these like redneck, backwoods words or sayings?

They bugg me too a little bit . I guess its cuz they dont make sense. how can you CUT off the light unless you want to break it. And you dont really mash the buttons on the remote or whatever you just push them. I dont really know about the hind catcher or the word comode.
Im not sure where all these things originated either. alot of words bugg me to like the word ye or when ppl say "What are you A-doin."

I can not know but suggest that you just do not understand where these sayings come from or what they mean.

The dictionary says a commode is a low cabinet or a toilet or a womens headress from around 1700's.

Cut off the light might be a hold over from cut the current or connection.

However you can try to understand origins and that might make you less bothered by the words/phrases which you do not understand.

People tend to talk like the people in areas in whcih they live. Wait until you say it... lol. I live in GA but came from Michigan. Though my grammar isn't perfect in speech I used to cringe when I heard some of the things they say down here. Now, I'm used to it because I realize that they are just repeating what they've heard and understand. It's communication.

When in Rome!

I can't handle "Onced" or "Twiced"
We've all got our hang-ups.

BTW - some of us are from the backwoods - we may speak differently, but that doesn't make us idiots. Try to be a little more understanding and accepting of people who are different from you.

they bother you cause are judgmental and have a low tolerance to being different or not the same as you.
