If you cut the under layer of hair a little shorter than the top layer does that make the ends turn under ?

I had a friend tell me that it did but I didn't know if she really knew. My hair is all one length about shoulder length. It is very straight but for some reason flips up on the ends. I wish it would turn under instead.

NO.. NO it does NOT depend!
I get angry when people who don't do hair and don't know what they are talking about try and answer questions that should be answered by a professional!

To answer your question, YES.. graduation and undercutting (so that the hair gradually gets longer as you go up) DOES encourage your hair to curl under.
If you go to a professional stylist and tell them that you want to wear your hair curled under, they should KNOW to do a graduated cut, not just a one length style.
Even if a client comes to me and says they want their hair one length and then in the next breath say they like to curl it under all the time, I KNOW to do a graduated style.

So please, don't let your friend do it, let someone who went to school for this do it for you.

Yes. Do it in layers, the first is the shortest then let a little more down and cut it a little longer than the lower section and do this about 3 - 4 sections and your hair will be much eaiser to make it turn under than if it's all blunt cut.

that is the answer, straight hair is a problem to cut, especially if you do it your self....check out smart style salon inside walmart's..their cuts are round 15.00 but for ten more they will blow it out for you to give you some ideas on how to manage it....they also sell Sabestian products line of hair care...it is the very best,,,you won't be unhappy...good luck...
