Make a list of all the things you eat during the day for a week. Look over your list at the end of the week and if you eat more snack food or fast food than healthier foods, consider changing your eating habits. Walk to work if possible, or instead of the elevator or escalator take the stairs. First things first, you need to get your heart pumping. Inactivity is what causes obesity not eating. You can eat five meals a day, and if you move around, walk, climb stairs, ride a bike, you won't gain weight. If you eat five meals a day and then sit in a chair or on the couch, your body isn't properly using the energy that it is being given. So move your body.

You should really consult with a doctor before asking someone here what you should do.
Starting with a diet would help. Try to eliminate 500 calories from the amount of calories you eat right now. Assuming you only ate 2,000 calories a day... Eating 1,500 for 7 days would guarentee you a 1 lb. weight loss.
Most people eat few calories when losing a large amount of weight for a significant amount of time. I lost weight while only eating 900 calories a day. Drinking lots of water (64 oz. a day) helps flush out the body and gets you ready for 'diet' food.
Healthy greens and whole wheats are great things to consider eating. They keep you full longer and the cravings don't come so often. You want to get as many nutrients and vitamins from items that benefit your body.
What ever you do, I wish you the best of luck. You want something that will last for a life-time... a weight loss. Eating the junk food out there gives you temporary pleasure... afterwards, you are left guilty and confused.
Best wishes.

Start eating a vegan diet that is if you are committed to losing weight. Some easy recipes: tacos substitute Boca grounds for meat, season it like you would meat. Vegetarian Beans and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth in your rice. Eat whole grain bread instead of white bread. Try not to eat more than four pieces a day. Try the Special K challenge, eat two bowls of cereal-one for breakfast one for lunch. Use soy milk or rice milk. Take Vitamins. Drink Water instead of soda, beer, and be careful of how much sugar is in the juice you drink. Start off exercising slowly. Walking or swimming, both are easy on joints. Monitor your improvement with your doctor. Some of the HMO's like Kaiser have classes that help you plan. You might be able to get a referral from your doctor to see a nutritionalist. If your open minded you could go to a acupuncturist and they will set you up on a diet and mild exercise plan. Stay committed.

You need to burn more than you eat....you can do this by watching your caloric intake and by moving your body ( exercise). At almost 400 pounds you will have to start slow. I would suggest walking a little bit every day, and working up to more distance as you get fitter and lighter. Good luck, I know that it is possible ( I used to be overweight myself) And I agree with a previous poster...you need to consult with a doctor and get a check-up before you start on any program.

You need to start exercising sorry no easy way.
If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.
Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 calories women & 1500 men
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions. No gym involved.
Don't eat carbs after 4pm, never eat carbs within 2 hours of exercise or within 1 hour of exercise.
Drink 3 litres of water per day. You can have a green tea at the end of the day.
Limit your fruit in take to 2 pieces per day.
Never eat dinner after 6pm.
Adopt of low GI eating plan this is sustainable for life!
Make low fat dairy choices
All food choices need to be low fat
Don't make food a big deal and don't socialise using food
Follow this menu plan as a suggestion:
Breakfast 7am - 1 cup hot water w lemon
20 minutes later have a bowel of oats w water (no honey) OR
fruit salad w low GI soy yogurt
Snack 10am - pear or apple (both low GI)
Lunch 12.30pm - multigrain sandwich w 50g tuna/lean meat & salad (no butter)
Snack 3pm - low GI yogurt OR skim berry smoothie (no honey or banana) plenty of ice, 1/2 cup skim milk & 1/4 cup yogurt
Dinner 5.30pm - 120g-150g grilled lean meat/fish/prawns/tofu patties (not fried) w spinach salad & mixed vegies (no whites, carbs) OR 3 egg white/soy omlette with ham, cheese and tomato
Snack - 1 scoop of low cal low fat ice cream (if hungry)
Exercise is must be intense. Refer to www.bodybuilding.com for your weights routine. Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.
Cardio needs to include running, go hard up stair wells and cycling. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.
To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 women & 1800 men and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. go back to 1200 -1500 cal and 6 sessions again.
Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.

The only healthy way to lose weight is to eat healthy and exercise. If you want to be healthy than you shouldnt go by weight, because muscle weighs more than fat. Exercise and eat healthy! Good luck.

I highly recommend Weight Watchers. They teach you about food portions and they offer lots of support. Get a buddy, start a friendly competition for weekly weight loss, hours exersizing, etc. Also a buddy to exersize with makes you more likely to do it.
Good Luck.
