Sorry, but no. You can get support beginning from the day you file. If you (or the person you are hypothetically asking for) decides to go for it, go ahead and file now because sometimes it takes months to get all the paperwork done, parent found, etc. By the way, no matter what the situation is between the parents, you should always remember that child support is for/about the child, and every child deserves financial support even if it comes with no emotional ties. In my case, my ex came back after fourteen years and said that he had changed and wanted to be a part of my son's life. The lawyers told me if he wanted rights of visitation he had to pay for the past back child support. I would look into it.

in my state ( new york ) you can only recover back support, back to the date you FILED the paperwork....

so, I would hurry up and check....and file those papers....
