It seem,s that after a few day,s of this question being out, I have more or less concluded that not too many people are very happy with the situation in this country. Well, we all allowed it to get that way by not using all the tool,s we have, like voting, contacting our representative,s, etc. telling them what WE want. WE are the people. It,s time to be a collective force and Vote out these bum,s. Maybe we do need a Strong third party. I tend to see the USA going the way the Roman empire went. Sitting back and making dumb remark,s isn,t going to fix anything, and needless to say it need,s fixing. I,m not an educated man, just an old one that see,s that our country is sure different than it was 70 year,s ago. we need honesty again in politic,s, let,s MAKE them honest. WE THE PEOPLE should mean common sense among all person,s. as it is now it,s just WE,individually the people. let,s get it together , thanks

"We the people" was line put into the preamble of the constitution when it was being written to emphasize that the new American form of government was ruled by the citizens of the land (which, compared to other governments at the time, it was), instead of by some monarch who never had to answer to citizens' wills.

When the Constitution was written, it basically was meant to be anyone who "mattered" in society: land owning men of European descent, the only people who could vote. As time went on, and women and people of non-European ethnic backgrounds got more rights in the US, the meaning has expanded to encompass every citizen in the US, and some say it extends even to non-citizens.

It is a constant reminder that "WE" the people (of any country) are the ruling class, no government can rule without the consent of its people.
Unfortunately "we the people" of the United States, are so lazy and stupid and apathetic to the world around that the US government now has no accountablity to "the people" and now our freedoms and our lives are becoming subject to government scrutiny and national security and the only way to recover from this abyss is if "We the People" stand up and demand our rights...our freedoms...and our lives be returned to us.

Life is always paradoxical...The "we" in "we the people" addresses, not you and me as plural ,but a single, each individual or a citizen of a country. This gets cited in a constitutional elaboration not about the individual rights but we the collective people's decision on broader but clear Frame work on a constitutional issues like "Secular, etc....
Too complicated to fix it in few words.

It means "We, the People..." Unfortunately, our government now seems to think it means "We the corporations, we the wealthy elite, we the special interest groups, we the lobbyists, or we the anyone else who has enough money to throw around to get us re-elected. The answer to your question is so obvious that it makes me believe that you were looking for some sort of discussion about the constitution, maybe. Could you clarify your question with exactly what you were looking for?

"We the people" refers to the same "people" as in "government of the people, for the people, by the people".
If you don't know American English I can translate it for you:
"we the rich" and "government of the rich, for the rich, by the rich".

Actually I am a little off. I should correct the second part:
"government of the rich, for the rich, by the idiots"
