My ex-gf loves her boyfriend, but ironically, is so unhappy with the way he treats her sometimes and takes her for granted. When she was with me, I offered her something so much better, but moving a far distance ended our relationship. Now we're living in the same area again, she's back with this guy who I mentioned above (who hates me because he know she had such a wonderful time with me during our time together).
I feel kinda terrible for her. She often calls me crying and I just talk to her, try to get her to tell me whats bothering her and just keep her on the phone so she'll be able to take her mind off of it for a little bit. She continues to hang out with this guy, despite the fact he treats her like dirt sometimes.
It continues and I feel like "if you don't wanna help yourself (by talking to him/finally breaking up with him [which may be difficult because they're both very insecure]) then I can't keep helping you.

I'll also add, its just so bizarre to me, how she stays with him -- I mean, I understand the attachment thing. I do. But she is extremely headstrong and a feminist. I feel bad for her.

I work with several women like that. I finally figured out that they stay with the abusive husband or boyfriend because it gives them Drama in their life. Drama equals attention. Attention equals happiness for women. Negative attention with an inferiority complex is still attention. Sorry but true.
