I've been making homemade for around 17 years. The machine i use is an old do it all by "elbow grease" and crank and crank till it's time to go to the freezer it's tiring but worth it.

I have an electric Cuisinart brand Ice Cream maker. It makes good ice cream but even better sorbet. The best recipes I found are from the Ben and Jerry's Homeade Ice Cream and Dessert Cookbook. You can probably find it on Amazon.com.

I use a coffee can and ice...it's also more fun for kids, they can roll the can to make their own ice cream
