It's not illegal to make homemade alcohol, but it's illegal to take said alcohol and sell without a liquor license.

it's not illegal to make your own alcoholic beverages but to make them and sell them without a license to do so it's illegal. I know my dad has a friend that makes this stuff that tastes like Hawahian Punch but after it goes down it starts to burn a little...it's good stuff.

Most states have laws that allow a person to make up to a certain amount at home for personal use. As long as you don't try to sell it, you should be fine. After all, how is law enforcement going to know you are home brewing? They have better things to do than arrest you for brewing an extra gallon of beer over the "limit."

In New Zealand its not illegal, its just not legal to sell alcohol. then you contravening all sorts of problems. Your have to become a brewery and have a license to produce alcohol, one to distribute or transport or another license to sell. There are so many laws about the manufacturing, distributing and selling alcohol.

You don't actually say where you are, so your local laws may be different, but...
In general, making beer and wine for your own consumption
is perfectly legal. Making it for sale, isn't, partly because of public health regulations, partly because of taxation....
Distilling liquor, on the other hand, is a big no-no in most places, because it's a more complex process, harder to control with home-made equipment, and more likely to produce a toxic product, or to blow up... :-)
