When a food is spicy, it hurts, but it makes the food so nice!
Why is it that spicy food is so nice, despite this?

It can be exciting. Originally, many spices were used to cover up the taste of potentially spoiled food. After a time, I suppose, people began to develop a taste for the spices, whether it was used to cover spoilage or not. Some spices also have health benefits or may be considered aphrodisiacs. Most spices are used to enhance the taste of a food, not over-power it. However, there are those amongst us, that derive great pleasure from being able to consume hotter jalapenos (or other product) than any of their friends, which ensures them of the "most macho" label. Unfortunately, it's not until after they've broken a bone or something, lost an eye, or need pepto bismol, that they realize, that macho doesn't necessarily mean intelligent.

I really love spicy food, if it doesn't make my mouth blister, as some hot peppers have done. It makes me feel good!* I especially love spicy Indian chutneys and sauces. For me, part of it is that it makes the taste of foods more interesting. I like flavoring foods with herbs too. I'll never forget the first time I tasted cilantro, and arugula, which isn't a spice or even an herb, but it has a spicy taste. I just had to know what those heavenly flavors were! I also like the combinations of different tastes, like sweet and salty, or sweet and sour...

*Maybe because it helps clear my sinuses!

I tend not to order the too spicy curries, unless i am feeling brave. Korma and pasanda are my fave, they are mild and really yummy.

It just livens up what could be somewhat normal and bland. Gives a good feeling in the mouth.
