I understand that the 'real' reason for lime in mexican beer bottles is because the beercaps are put on by hand - and that the purpose of the lime, is to disinfect the top of the beer bottle. I've been told this a couple of times, but when I tell someone else, it's a first for them. What's the real story?

I thought it was because it was bottled with Mexican water and the lime kills the bacteria that causes Montezuma's Revenge.
