hydrocarbons are molecules that are comprised of, surprisingly, hydrogen and carbon. They're not doing ANYTHING to affect global warming, but gasoline, natural gas, methane, diesel fuel, and coal are all types of hydrocarbons. When we burn these, a byproduct is carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. ( CO2 , CO ) these are greenhouse gasses because they help keep heat, thermal radiation, in our atmosphere, thus adding to global warming.
