Go to many many local events such as concerts etc, join a club such as line dancing if your into that or a bowling leag. Go to every event your friends may have, a wedding party etc. You can also place an ad in the paper or search for a singles dating place/party in your area online, we have them here in town and i need to go there since im single myself lol. Yahoo personals can be a lot of help too, you just need to be honest about youself and know what you want and be clear in your profile, dont leave anything out such as a picture of yourself, i wont click on any profile without a picture.
Match.com and Harmony.com are 2 very good places to place a personal as well, just make sure you fill everything in and it may get you somewhere, oh and keep it local because you dont want to travel thousands of miles to meet and then find there is no sparks. Before meeting her make sure you know A LOT about her, never jump into it and dont believe everything she may tell you and always reply to her e-mail, communication is the keyword when dating online.

I'm not the bar scene guy myself. I've done online dating on Match.com and I've met some genuine women. Try there.
