You are correct. If you have good searching skills you can find most any answer on the net. For those who don't know how to search this site can be easier. The cautions about checking out your answers work the same for both. I would use this resource along side other methods of searching if I was in need of a answer to some question. You might get an answer here that you would get no where else. John

Well, for some people or questions, it isn't that easy to find the information using a keyword search on Yahoo! or Google. Some people are very intimidated by the amount of results you would get and it can be hard to sort through them all to find what your looking for. Yahoo! Answers is designed to allow people to ask questions in natural language and get a variety of answers. It's interactive and fun! If you are comfortable with the results you get in a search engine, then use that. Other people prefer this method.

1) This is the internet.
2) You don't get points for asking on a search engine.
3) Some people don't know how to que a search engine.
4) This is more fun.
5) Why didn't you pose this question to a search engine? Exactly. Some questions don't answer well on search engines.

You can get information on the net (and more people should) but you can't get opinions nor discussion. Its not only more fun and interactive, you also get ideas about things that you might not have even thought about yet.
I don't really care about the points but it is fun when someone chooses your answer as best. We all have slightly different motives but we all get a little thrill out of that I think.

My thoughts exactly! I came across a question a moment ago asking for words that began with the letter B. It's not like it takes a rocket scientist to figure it out. Google it, for goodness sake!

Its fun. It like makes you feel all competitive against other people (sometimes) And you get to have your answers asked by real people. Plus sometimes its harder to find what you want on the internet, and you can ask for like advice from real people w/ personal matters.

I think because of the entertaining factor of earning points. It's like a status symbol.
