The answer to this question is not black and white. Many studies over the years have shown clearly that parents treat their children according their "perceived" attractiveness. That does not say that parents love their children less because they see their child as "ugly". But a parent will treat a "attractive" child "better" and treat that same child differently as it matures becomes less attractive. In some primitive cultures, girls are considered "disposable" and left to die in the jungle or desert. In other cultures a "defective" child is killed at birth.
My caveat of "better" treatment is not trivial. In my opinion it is a curse to be born attractive particularly for a female. An attractive female often struggles with her diminishing looks later in life because her whole life (and treatment) has been defined and dictated by her looks. An attractive male is often treated as being weak or feminine.

As a mother I do not see how you could love your child less. Physical looks do not make the person. When a child acts ugly (does a mean thing) a mother will be disappointed in the child but never love the child less.

Every parent I have ever know has thought that their child was the most beautiful they have ever seen, even when the kid wasn't. I have a hard time believing that a parent would love a child less because of how that child might look.

Well it might make it more difficult to bond.
Babies cute features i.e small face, big head, chubby cheeks, are designed to evoke loving protective feelings in adults. I guess if a baby didn't have these features then the bond might take a little longer to form, but i'm sure in most cases it still would.

Not any real parent! I would not love my kids any less if they had 3 arms and 4 legs and a tail. No matter what they look like! They are my babies!

no I do not believe that it is true. Any person that loves their child less because of the way they look is very shallow and should not be a parent.

I don't think that I could ever stop loving my child, no matter what. It may be true of some cultures, but in general, I think it is human nature to love your offspring no matter how the rest of the world views them.

to any parent their child is the most beautiful child ever.
even for children who have facial deformities, they are deeply loved. why else would their parents spend so much money fixing the deformities? they would just give them up for adoption if they didn't want an "ugly" baby.

Kids which do not fit the common definition of cute/attractive are born everyday but their parents still love and adore them. SO on that basis, I would say no, its probably not true.

Surprizingly, this can be true. Some parents resent that they have ugly off-spring. Of course, this makes them shallow and horrible people,so maybe they get some payback.
