If you are interested in studding your dog and don't know how to do it you should find a local Basset Hound club in your area who can put you in touch with a reputable breeder. Many local organizations are very helpful to new owners and you can find a mentor to teach you about the stud business and how to proceed. You can contact the AKC and ask for information about organizations or breeders in your area.

FIRST contact the Basset club to find out what health checks are nessary in the basset breed. (I THINK eyes, but am not sure nor what else). Absolutly you need a brucellosis test any you should require it for any prospective mate.
Now what titles does he have? Is he a field dog? a bench champian? there are different magazines keyed to different aspects of the breed & you may not have much sucess advertising a field dog in a show dog publication and visa versa.

Only other backyard breeders will want to use your pet quality male for stud. I guess if you really NEED to make money off your dog then go ahead. Don't expect any quality puppies to come out of it and I hope the puppy buyers don't care that your dog could be passing on genetic defets, since you haven't had him screened.
