I'm sold on the Reidel wine glasses. I never would have believed that the right glass enhances wine that much.

But--- what's the taste difference, if any, between the $25 glass and the $90 handblown glass?

Yes, we all agree that the special shape can enhance wine.

My question is to you out there who have the top-end Reidels. (The handblown $90/per babies.)

Are they that much better that the $25/per babies?

Thanks for your thoughts.

in my experience, none. though it is enjoyable to drink from a nice, fancy glass.

I've never done the Reidel tasting but there's another glass company that makes similar glasses to Reidel that is called Spiegelau. I've done the Spiegelau tasting and I can tell you without a doubt, it makes a difference in the bouquet and taste of the wine. Both companies have designed each of their glasses to enhance the wine they are designed for. They are specifically shaped to bring out the tastes and the aromas that each wine characteristically gives off. Both Reidel and Spiegelau have worked with wineries, winemakers and the winery owners to develop the glasses exactly the way they should. That is why the Reidel and Spiegelau glasses cost more than the Martha Stewart or Libbey wine glasses you'll find in places like Walmart or Sears. The other glasses are fine for every day use but investing in a set of Reidel or Spiegelau (which is cheaper than Reidel) is well worth it when you want to really enjoy a glass of wine.

Don't let wine snobs convince you of anything.

Test things for yourself. Do a blind taste test (in this case you'll actually need to be blinfolded so you can't see the glasses) and see if you can tell the difference. (Assumming you want to get your hands on a $90 handblown glass)

I challenged vodka snobs to a blind taste test and had Grey Goose, Smirnoff, Albertsons, Skyy, and Ketel One. Winner: Albertons brand (grocery store $5 bottle).
