Depends on every human being... I dont think religion is the answer, since everybody actually thinks their religion is the only true one and dismiss the rest... We can obtain peace only if we all think about making peace, peace is inside each one of us.

What an oxymoron? Harmony, peace and freedom at the same time thru religion. I don't think so. Religion is what separates us. I believe if we dismantle religion, in all its forms, we might stand a chance. Religious wars have been fought since before Jesus. Everyone always thinks theirs is right. In addition, all religions encourage converting non-believers. How can you expect to have harmony if everyone is on a mission to convert everyone else. Religion is the opiate of the masses (to paraphrase Karl Marx). To bring peace, we need to eradicate religion like a deadly plague then maybe we can try the peace thing. Although, world peace is just as much a hallucination. No people are ever going to be truly content with each other. Thousands of years of culture (learned behaviors) have taught us to hate that which is different and that we do not understand. and we unfortunately are creatures of habit.

We don't need a religion for world peace, we need tolerance. We need to accept people are different and that is what makes the world a great place. I don't know if there could ever be world peace, because there is just to many people that love war and fighting over BS too much.

Well look at what the "peace" preaching Christianity has done for the world. There were only 3 crusades after all, that's pretty easy to sweep under the rug. And Islam preaches peace too, but there are those radical terrorists, lots of world peace there. For me, peace is an impossibility, and religion is one more difference between people. Difference fuels hatred, and as long as there is hatred, there cannot be peace.

As many people have already said - religion has been the upmost cause of war in our world's history - I think the only way world peace would ever occur is if we rendered religion to a completely personal act or if it was done away with all together

Most people would say that NO!! We do NOT need religion. Religion is the cause of our wars what with people strapping bombs to themselves and blowing up places "for their god". I, on the other hand, believe that yes we do need religion. In the bible, it says there will be a huge war (Armageddon) that Jehovah God will win and then there will be peace on the earth. As I see it, How can there be peace, brought on by Jehovah God, who is the head of a religion, without religion? So I believe that, yes, we need religion for world peace.

I think we need tolerance to bring world peace. I think we need leaders that will actually LEAD the way to peace. I think we also need a renewable source of energy to bring peace to the world today - energy needs to be taken out of the equation.
If out religions could help us with these things, that would be great - but only if it strengthens people from within and doesn't try to run rampant in our world (though we could all use a new source of energy Miracle, right?)

The purpose of religion is to keep men free of vices and free from the cluthes of satan, but humans do not understand the true gist of religion and fight over it. Religion can bring peace only if Religion is clubbed with sprituality, any religion without spirituality is a waste.

Religion is actually bringing more harm than good, all the terrorism you hear of is because of different religious beliefs.
If we can understand how the Kingdom of God is supposed to be like on earth, thats when there can be world peace
