I just colored my hair and need to know when is the color locked in. I know after you color it is so many hours before the color is locked in and if you wash it the color will not fade. My hair color is too dark. I would like to wash some of it out. How long do I have. I colored last night about 7p.m.

Please I really need some good advice. Don't need any smart answers.

If you buy a clarifying shampoo, like pantene or something, and wash it several times within a few days of coloring your hair, it should fade dramatically. I believe that color is completely locked in within two days, because when i get my hair colored, they always tell me to wait two days to wash my hair.

I think you're asking if you wash it now will the colour fade out a bit right? In theory yes, but in practice not really. This sounds crazy but I died my hair recently and it was way too bright. A friend suggested using Head & Shoulders shampoo several times as it strips the hair. This actually worked and reduced the brightness of the colour. I think alot of anti dandruff shampoos do this so if you have some in the house give it a try now.

Did you use a permanent dye? If so it won't wash out. If you used
something like loving care it takes several washings to lighten it.
I am blonde and I used loving care to darken my hair and what a
surprise, it was sooo dark. I wanted to put a bag over my head. I went to the beautician and she washed it with some product that
lightened it a lot. If you have the instructions that may help you too. Good luck.

its locked in when you put it in really, but you can wash it right now even, just keep washing it, and the color will fade, i did that with red once, it took a few days but it got to the color i wanted but one tip thought, when you finally get the color you want, then condition, but if you already conditioned dont do it again till you get the color that you want, good luck and best wishs

If you wash it now, some of the color will come out.
If you wait after 24 hours, the color will be harder to wash out

Use Head and Shoulders...it conditions your hair(unlike a clarifying shampoo), which your hair really needs after coloring but will also pull some of the color out.

You can wash as soon as you want. In fact by washing it may just get rid of the over color and look the way you want. If not use Prell it will take some out.
