If I purchase a van and modify it for a wheelchair user (me), is the modification deductible as a medical expense? Does it matter if I purchase it already modified?

yes you can deduct the Modification cost only, and don't play smart. Don't Buy a trash and then try to get it fixed. Will you take Itemized Deductions or Standered? Plus Medical Deductions are Subject to % Of your Gross Income.

Yes. You can deduct for a van conversion, however you can only deduct the cost of modifications that are necessary for your particular condition. You can in no way deduct the cost of the van itself.

I think so. There should be an IRS publication on medical expenses like this ... see irs.gov and do a search.
