I assume you mean "wash" rather than "was"? He won't like it and he will search for his "real" toy for days. It will break your heart. Believe me I know. My 12-year-old cat had a rabbit fur play toy shaped like a mouse for 4 years. He would carry it around, then walk into the room where I was with it in his mouth, crying like a mother cat bring me food. But anyway, he had played with it so much that he'd ripped it apart at the seams and pulled out the cardboard tube on the inside. It was basically just a flat piece of rabbit fur. So I thought I'd buy another one for him, same brand, same color, etc. I brought it home, threw his old one away, opened the package and he HATED it. He wouldn't even look at it after his first inspection of it. Later that night, and ALL that night, he walked around the house crying, looking for his "friend". (The garbage man had picked up the trash that day, so there was no going back and getting it out for him.) After that first night, he stopped crying, but he hasn't stopped looking for it. I don't really think he has been the same since. This happened about a year ago. So be careful. Maybe your cat isn't as spoiled as mine, so it may be ok.

I think your cat is lonely. That being said, do wash his toy. He can get an infection from it. Use fragrance free detergent, and no dryer sheets. He may be put off by it for a day or so, but he should go right back to playing with it.

I was my cats "blankee" but I don't wash it often....& then when I do wash it....I always rub it all over her....that way, her scent returns to the blanket.
So, I think it would be ok for you to wash the toy.....but 1st put it in a pillow case & tie the case together so the toy will keep its shape & not get torn.
Once it's clean....rubb it all over your cat so that his smell will get into the toy.
& it should work.

he might decide he doesnt like it if its clean, but if you take the time to stick it on his bed, or touch him with it so it smells like him again, he'll probably get over it.
If he likes one thing a lot, he will probably move on to another if his first choice isnt there. I would wash it.

Who knows? Cat's are funny. If it's your cat's 'baby' I'd leave it alone. You wouldn't want to ruin it for him and not be able to replace it. Have you considered getting your cat a kitten to pal around with?? Our older male cat absloutely adores kittens, makes a wonderful papa.

Good question. I have never encountered this; however, have you tried to gradually introduce him to a new and similar one while he still has the old one? Perhaps, even hide the old one once in a while so he will attach himself to new one. I would give it a try. Hope this helps.

No problem! My dog has her favorites too. I wash them and then take them and rub them all over her bed & leave it there to get her scent on them again. She will be back to playing with it in just a few days.

Clean it! The cat could get germs that would make it sick.
