Adagio is an Italian word for a common musical tempo marking. Adagio is a slow tempo, slower than andante but faster than larghetto.

In fact adagio is still commonly known.
you could say to a kid wolfing down her pizza "adagio, mangia adagio, che ti viene il singhiozzo" (ndr, slowly, eat slowly, that you will get a hickup")
