Drugs for people suffering from bi-polar disorder are as individual as the person. It usually requires trying out different medications - trial and error. There are some medications that are known for being better and your psychiatrist should know about those. I would see a mental health professional and not a family doctor about this. They have much more experience in finding the right medication or combination of medication. Someone mentioned Wellbutrin on the list - stay away - they've shown that it can cause suicidal episodes in people with bi-polar disorder. Your best bet is to look on the web and read up and then talk to your mental health caregiver. One web site to start with is www.whatmeds.com
This illness is nothing to screw around with so get proper educated advice.

Bi-polar is a mental disorder that is curable and should be diagnosed by a Doc first to make sure that it is Bi-polar, and can be treated with a long list of Meds. Not just a few Meds are available but many. Before a person asks this question , the question should be does an individual in particular have this disorder? Sometimes the problem is depression, or other factors can be involved to some problems not related to the body.
