Poodles do not shed, but they need their hair cut! Before you decide what kind of dog, etc. you should first assess what you ARE willing to do. The basics should be done for EVERY PET, brushing, or for hairless pets (scarey looking cats & dogs!), they also need OTHER care. Figure out what you mean by grooming. WOuld you not go out in the world with your face washed & hair combed/brushed on the most basic of your days? Well, think about that. You should ask a VETERINARIAN! They have the best knowledge! THen narrow down your requirements! If you are looking for real low maintenance, never get a short haired dog, is my take on it, like a terrier. They DO shed tiny little hairs which STICK to everything! With long hair, you may laugh at this, but at least....if it comes off your dog, you will be able to SEE it and scoop it up! I say, ask the Vets. They will help you narrow down your needs!

Papillons, Poms and Yorkies require EXTRA grooming. Like the guy above.. Boston Terriers are great and Pugs too. Not much grooming at all, but my friend's Pug sheds A LOT, Boston Terriers not so much. Good luck!

I have a terrier and they do not shed. She gets a haircut and nail trimming 4 times a year. I consider that little grooming.

Try a chihuahua, I don't think they ever need a haircut, but they may shed, I"m not sure.

My mother in law has a shih-tzu and a lasa...they also may need haircuts a few times a year, but they don't shed either and they are little.

Rat Terriers, and Jack Russel Terrier's are small, and they don't require much grooming at all!

Good Luck! =D

hmm, I have a Chihuahua and she is really sweet. I never groom her, and she is perfectly fine. Not all Chihuahuas are nasty. Mine is not. CHihuahuas barely shed. You could also get a Jack Russel Terrier. They do not need any grooming and they barely shed. Good Luck!

Italian Greyhounds have been great for my wife and myself. Small, loving and very energetic. I suggest you look at your lifestyle and get the type of dog that will match that. We are fairly active, and the IG suits us well. We have friends that are couch potato's and lasos are the dogs for them! (hate walks, loooove to sit on your lap while you watch tv)

either get a short haired or hairless dog but both still require brushing for skin health.. or the other non-shedding dogs but they require trips to the groomer for bathing and hair cuts.. so either way there is ALWAYS dog hair maintance to be done...
ask yourself this - how often do you brush your hair? and why should the dog epect any less?

There are hundreds of breeds. You should try going down to your local animal welfare center. That way you could not only find your perfect dog, but you would probably save it's life.
