Have u tried asking her if ur her type?
If ur having trouble coming right out asking her then try this
Ask her if she saw u at a club or bar would u be the type who she would mind coming up to her to ask her to dance or buy a drink and ask for her phone number?
If she says yes, then ur her type, if she says no then she's not the only girl around who u can have feelings for.

try to talk to her a lot. maybe go to a party that she's going to and hang out with her there. Then you will get to know her more, and maybe find out if she's your type. Then ask her if she would like to hang out some time. if she says no, then move on...there are other fish in the sea you know. good luck!

Girls are a mystery and often for fall for the opposite of what they thought was their ideal. And it is often difficult to know if they are interested or not. Given this I would forget the subtle...smile at her alot, ignore any response and just ask her out for a date.

type what do you mean on type as long as you both like eachother is all that matters what you can do to catch her attention is to just talk to her about normal things and as the months go by talk about more serious things with her because beleive me the best way to get to someones heart is talking to them.

get closer to her as a mate, then find out her previous relationships and see or ask her mates, a lad did that for me once and found he was my type :)
