Personally, I think getting rid of all the all-you-can-eat buffets is definately not the answer. Not everyone who enjoys the venue is is plagued with weight issues. To me it would seem like a very, minimal at best, bandaid solution. We have to try to understand the "why" behind obesity and do something to help those at risk of becoming obese as well as those who are presently so......but I don't think the answer just lies in shutting down the all-you-can-eat buffets. For that matter then, we should shut down all the fast food restaurants in general and only allow salad bars and health food stores to remain oepn......but that sounds a little severe, don't you think?
We are undoubtably living in a world of instant gratificatification, ranging anywhere from video games to drugs to sex and yes food. It seems that the people constantly require more and more to feel "happy" only to find out that more and more is harder and harder to get and we end up in a catch 22, chasing this more and more but never seeming to be happy enough.
I think we all have to take a step back and look at ourselves, our unique situations, and our world and find out how we can truly benefit our bodies and benefit the world in the mean time. Maybe taking time to smell the roses will open our eyes enough to start feeling truly happy about who we are and who we can be and ultimately contribute to our own lives and the world in a much more productive manner.

Buffets offer a wide variety - and normally the salad section is HUGE with a lot of vegetables that people might not necessarily buy for themselves. They normally offer a good selection of fruit, too. Plus, there are normally selections of cooked vegetables, meats that are not fried, and the like.
I say keep the buffets open! People should not blame buffets or restaurants for people's lack of self restraint and unhealthy lifestyle.

Don't blame the restaurant for obesity.
People should eat at home MOST of the time. They should learn to control their diets and eating habits. They should get the SOUTH BEACH diet book, and learn the latest on good eating habits, and the latest dangers that have been identified on TOO MUCH sugar (CARBS) and the danger of Transfats.
South Beach also has a nutrition guide, which clearly tells you what to avoid.
People should NEVER go on a short term diet. They should not have to use PILLS for dieting. They should INSTEAD learn how to take control of their lives and eat properly.
But, once in a while... GO FOR IT. EAT LIKE A PIG. (You will also learn that when you get into a habit of eating less, you can't BIG OUT as much as you used to).

I believe that the only way to cut down on American obesity from bufets is to pass a law requiring the food to be healthy, or at least put into practice a method of slimming down on the unhealthy bufet foods. US law prevents the shutting down of establishments unless they are hazardous to health, and buffet foods can be okay if they are eaten in moderation, so they can't be shut down. To offer healthier choices at all-you-can-eat buffets is pretty much the only way to prevent as many obese Americans.

I don't think we can stop all you can eat buffets. I love all you can eat buffets because of the various foods and I try to eat slowly so I get full faster.
I think that the first step in stopping American obesity is with the kids. Give them healthy snacks, eat healthy around them, and watch those pounds shed.

I don't think they should get rid of them but they definently add more healthier foods in the buffets because it would maket eating out a lot more enjoyable. I wish they would do that becuz when I go out with my mom I usually have a salad so that fills me up so i don't eat as much but they could make the salad bars healthier to add better salad mix like Romaine ETC. Along with low fat or fat free salad dressings.

There are usually a lot of healthy foods on a buffet table-it's up you to pick them out, and not eat all the fattening foods.

No.
It is unfortunate that we (myself included) can't control our gluttony but to force restaurants to remove buffets would violate many civil liberties.
Besides, I like the variety you get at buffets. You can try a little bit of everything.
