I woke up this morning to find my dog crying, something seems to be wrong with her rear or upper back leg. This has happened before, but when we took her to the vet, nothing was wrong with her...the dr. just gave her something and sent her home. Can I just give her Ibuprofen for the pain? I've been reading, and everything I find says not to give dogs asprin. She's a german shepherd/beagle mix...so if I can give her anything, how much? She's about 45 pounds. Any suggestions?

Thank you to everyone who helped out with my question! I took her to the vet later that afternoon...turned out she was just really constipated. Went to a different vet this time, he made us wait around until she was herself again. She's back to her old happy self! Thanks again everyone!

i don't recommend gaving a dog our medication. just go to the vet, maybe there's something wrong this time or if there's not, they could gave you a pain reliever for dogs.

OK, from the Merck Vet Manual, ibuprofen is safe for dogs. However it is VERY hard on their stomachs and can cause bleeding ulcers. Not something to take a chance with.
I would go with the aspirin (no more than 1 baby aspirin per day) and would find another vet Monday morning. There is some problem that needs to be addressed here This sounds like a bone spur or hip problem, but a GOOD vet needs to determine the problem. There are wonderful medicines available to treat pain in dogs that won't cause as many side efffects.
I have to wonder, if the vet found nothing wrong with your dog, why did he/she give her something?

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU75l
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Not ibuprofen. It irritates the lining of the stomach and could cause damage to other organs. Baby asprin is ok to give to dogs. 1 per day is all though. As for tylenol, I have heard that works too, but you will want to ask your vet to make sure you give the correct amount.

When my Miniature Schnauzer is in pain, I give her 1/4 of a dropper full of INFANT tylenol (as recommended by my veterinarian).
This is what my vet recommended to me, so I trust it...but Ibuprofen, I honestly don't know...so, I would give your pup 1/4 of a dose of infant tylenol liquid...let it take the edge off.

No, Animals are more sensitive to medications, especially since they are so much smaller.I would try baby aspirin.I am pretty sure 1 every 6 hour should be okay.I know this because my cat had been ran over or something and she walked with a limp and the vet told me to do that for her,but she was only 8 pounds and i believe he said twice a day for her.

I agree with checking with the Vet. Ibuprofen can cause serious Liver and Kidney damage in humans. My vet tells me that anything that can happen to a human can happen to a dog. He will tell you what over the counter med and the dosage that is safe.

Something sounds wrong to me, but what ( I don't know )! My vet has told me baby aspirin or Tylenol can be giving' to them. But come Monday I would take her to the vet. It may be arthritis to which they can give her a shot for pain and some meds. Did they x-ray the leg? Usually a good vet can tell if its arthritis or something more serious. GOOD LUCK!!!
