I agree with your doctor. Children are very smart. Your child knows you will hold the bottle so why should he. Some babies seem eager to hold their bottle while others want you to do it. I work with infant and have for abut 16 years plus have 2 of my own. I would not worry. Once he starts holding his own bottle you will not take the time to hold him during feedings anymore just because we live in a rushed society. Enjoy the time with him. He seems to be developmentally on target with everything else - don't worry. Good luck.

He's probably not ready... all children are different. My son is 20 months old and doesn't know hw to hold up a sippy cup on his own. But it's actually best. I only breastfed him and shortly after he was drinking only from straw cups. I was concerned about him getting attached to bottles or hard sippy cups, which are proven to cause dental problems. Even if it's their baby teeth, prolonged use of bottles, pacifiers, or sippy cups past 18 months can shape the way the permanent teeth will come in. At 18 months, my son's doctor and dentist. told me not to let him use a sippy cup for that reason. So, if you are still worried about your son not holding up a bottle, make it easier by getting him a small drink cup with a flexible straw... or BETTER YET: we used a PODEE for my son's juices when he was your son's age. It's a regular bottle with the nipple attached to a long, flexible straw... no hands required!!! Good Luck and Best Wishes!!!

Not to worry, a lot of times babies will do something for the first time, get bored with it and not do it again for a while. Kinda like, well I did that, what else? Your doctor also has a good point, if you are going to do it for him, why should he have to do it for himself. Just keep providing opportunities for him to hold the bottle and he should be fine. Good luck.

I would say if he is developing well in everything else it is most likely because he knows you are going to hold it,had same problem and just tried to feed him before he was really hungry and let the bottle fall and keep showing him that he needs to hold it if he wants it,Good Luck

I wouldn't worry about it unless your doctor says there's something wrong.
Babies grow and develop at different stages.
Maybe your baby was breastfed longer so he's not used to holding bottles whereas a baby that wasnt breastfed can already hold a bottle.
Ask your doctor (if you haven't already) if you should be worried.

he sounds fine, and if even your doctor said it, i dont think you need to worry.. this must be your first child, right?
He could be just being lazy- would you hold your own bottle if you knew someone ellse would do it for you?
