I'm an American of Irish decent, married to a American of German decent. It made my family so angry when I married outside my species that they all got piss drunk and beat me up. And then, they sentenced me to..........."The Wearin' of the Green Shoes"! So now, if I return to Ireland, I'll be marked for assassination by both Protestants and Catholics alike. ;-)

Mr Darwin, for the life of me, I just cannot figure you out. Are you legit? Are you a pot stirrer? Someone who deliberately asks outlandish questions to get people to stretch their brains and really think about the issues facing the world today?
Or are you just a moron?
If it's the former, keep it up. You may tick some people off, but you are engaging them, making them think about what they may or may not believe in. And that's always valuable.
If it's the latter, well, I'm sorry.
Now, to your question. The Irish (God bless 'em) are one of this country's original minorities. They are also a pretty good success story for assimilation and the American Dream while still retaining their cultural heritage. (Of course, the fact that they were white and spoke English probably didn't hurt.) If I were able to pull off that sort of balancing act in 200 short years, I'd probably celebrate with a beer and a parade, too. God Bless America.
I do agree with you on one point. I am not of Irish descent myself and there does seem to me to be a societal pressure to at least "pretend" to be Irish every March 17th. Now, I have nothing against the Irish and and I think it's great that they have their special day to celebrate their Irishness. Just don't look down on me because I choose not to participate or pretend to be something I'm not. In fact, I go out of my way NOT to wear green on St Patrick's Day.
Now, you lost me on the whole marrying / debauchery / parade thing in the middle there, but there is no reason why you couldn't organize yourself a nice little straight agnostic Lithuanian married to a Hungariian Irish Italian Scot parade. Might not be a very BIG parade, but that's not the point. In the Land of the Free, if you want a parade, with certain few exceptions, you can have one.
Even if you are Irish.

To be sure, I don't think you'd ever get an irish man to up arms about any form celebration regardless of who it is in aid of(apart from the English obviously). I'm not sure your whole straight agnostic lithuianians who married a hungarian/irish/italian/scotsman thing will catch on but sure have a crack at it you never know sure the craic could be mighty! obviously you can't use craic or mighty while describing it you'll have to come up with your own straight agnostic lithuianians who married a hungarian/irish/italian/scotsman expressions.
