They both have their merits provided they are a good quality food. Watch out for by-products and preservatives. The reason most will say a wet food is because there is a high protein level, and it appears to be actual meat. However don't be fooled, there are often just as much crap in wet as there is in a low level dry.
See what your cats preference is. Mine gets dry all day as it doesn't spoil and a small scoop of wet in the evening. Both are all natural.

Giving kittens wet food is hard on their tummies and may give them the runs and tummy aches. There are so much food on the market that it is hard to check to see which one is best for your cat. WE had a baby kitten that should have had cat's milk still and the vet said she was okay to have dry food and we gave her the small kitten size food and well she ate like a little big and didn't gain any weight. We only had her 18 days and she was a calico kitten and she had a birth defect. She was around 3 months old. I miss her terribly and yes sometimes the vets are wrong. When we got our newest kitten they were given a formula, bottled fed and they loved it, to strengthen them, then they were given dry kitten food. They are healthily cats. Our oldest cat, almost 9 loves her dry food and meows if she doesn't get her treat of wet food. We have to watch that she doesn't have fish in it, she will throw up cause she is allergic to fish. Dry food helps their teeth get strong and yes you can give them wet food as a treat now a then. So try giving your kitten wet food as a treat, so their stools are not soft.

I think it's better that cats get some of both. Our cats always have a small bowl of dry food available. This keeps their teeth clean and gives them something to chew on. In the evening we give them some canned cat food which is a treat.

If i was you i'd only feed the cat dry food because wet food makes their crap stink....like 10X worse. I have a cat and all he gets is dry. Had one cat that ate wet food and he stunk up the house so we changed him to dry food and it smelt better after that. It was a family cat from when i was living at home.

Until they are 6 months of age they should get a small amount of canned daily... small amount = 1 teaspoon per feeding (with under 3 months of age, having 2 feedings, over 3 months of age 1 feeding per day of canned) it should be CHICKEN AND RICE.. fish is actually bad as it contributes to urinary tract health problems....
You can continue with the canned after it is optional - it is more costly but if you mix water with it to make a soup it can be a good way of making cat drink more which inturn helps with urinary tract health....
dry food - overall if its a good food its better for them than canned because it doesnt stick to their teeth as much (teeth rot is the main problem with canned)
it needs to be Premium (eg. not from grocery store or wal mart - but even some pet store foods are crap eg. Science Diet and Eukanuba are crap)
Dry food should be available all the time and is better overall for cats
true story - I was working for an SPCA and we had a purebred siamese cat come in.. the owner told us she was 2 yrs old.. the vet checked her teeth and figured he was lying and she was more like 8 or 9.. becuase of the appearance of her teeth - looking yucky etc.. anyhow the guy had registration papers indeed proving she was only 2 - infact he had ONLY ever fed her canned food - so this is what canned food can lead to.

Dry food is convenient, cheaper, helps keep their teeth clean, etc. I prefer that for everyday diet. However, instead of treats, I have always given my cats 1/2 can 2-4 times a week and they love it. It makes them drink more water, better for them than treats and too much canned food makes their poopy smell stronger! That is what made me switch to dry food when I acquired my 1st kitten yrs. ago and didn't know much about them at the time. Most importantly, choose a good brand name for proper nutrition.

My vet told me that dry food is best. He said that wet food can eventually rot their teeth. My own cat throws up if she eats wet food.

leave dry food out for when they want to snack on it and feed them either half a can when it is small or a full can when it's grown of wet food a day. cats can appreciate a variety of foods like we can.

My cat eats a mixture of both. If it's all dry, make sure the cat gets a LOT of fluid.
My brother's cat had numerous intestinal problems as he grew older and had to have parts of his colon removed -- but they can't put a bag on cats, so he was confined in the basement. (Caused by too much dry, not enough fluid, and constipation because of it.)
