yes use slightly less weight and rest no more than 30 secconds between sets...you wont seem as strong but your muscles cant tell if something weighs 5 pounds or 50 lbs...they just know they are being excerted hard...after a few weeks your muscles should adjust and you will get more defined.

People are built differently. There is no single solid answer to your question. You just have to play around and figure out what works for you. That said, there are some helpful things you can do in order to figure out what body type you have. First, concentrate on one major muscle group like your pectorals (chest). Control your food intake (lean and protein rich) and try doing lots of push-ups (low weight, high rep). Go all the way to muscle failure. Rest and begin another set. Do this routine daily for about 3-4 weeks. Note the difference (seriously, take notes). Then rest your pecs for about 2 weeks. In the meanwhile, you can work on other muscle groups or do some cardio so your body doesn't get too lazy. Now, go back to your pectorals but this time, do high weight, low rep (bench press, dumbbell press). The idea behind lifting heavy as opposed to light is to push your muscles as hard as you can for every single rep. That's why you should have a spotter when benching. Lots of people think they're lifting heavy when they're not even pushing it to the limit. No no no. EVERY SINGLE rep should kick your a**. Do this for a couple weeks and note the difference. For some people, lifting heavy just makes them stronger, but not defined. For others, it makes them bigger and more defined. But no matter what type your are, the best way to get defined muscles is by getting rid of the fat. To do this, your ideal heart rate for your weight and age should be around 120-140 bpm. That's not too high but that's exactly how you lose fat. Super high heart rate will strengthen your heart and build endurance. But losing fat is different. Also, don't combine muscle building and fat burning. You do two SEPARATE cycles called bulking and cutting. I'm 5'9" and 178 lbs at 6% body fat. I'm not all big and slow I'm pretty dang fast. It took me 3 years to get to this point. Yea it takes a while since an average person can only gain about 11 lbs of pure muscle a year even with hardcore training. Good luck!

As an ex-bodybuilder, my question is how long have you been working out?
You probably need to change your work-out routine to include more muscle groups. Now that your arms and abs are toned, you need to shift your focus to other areas. If you belong to a gym they should have a trainer there that could suggest different exercises.
Also your diet may be sabotaging you. To truly get the benefits of working out you need to decrease your carbs and consume a high protein diet. You will see an amazing difference then. You can also include a high protein liquid in you diet.
If you will adjust your diet, and include a little variation in your workout routine, you will see a difference in 1-3 months.
Good Luck

Well every muscle needs protein,
They need rest to develop after every exercise you do.thats a gap of day or 2 to repeat that step again.
if your want mass then increase the weight's with sets.
if you want cuts increase the reps per set.
first of all check what if you are doing the exercise correctly or not

What's a LOT of weights?!
Are you benching over 250lbs....are you doing arm curls with more then 40lbs dumbells?
Most people don't really get defined until they really get strong.

I would say that you should go to GNC or your gym and ask them.
