Would they send the police, an ambulence, or the fire department? Or would they send a combonation of them. Because say you called the police and there was a robber in your house and you could say anything. Or if you were having a heart attack and you couldn't speak.

In my little tiny town you can call ahead of time and let them know if someone in the house has a medical condition. If they get an open line they send everybody. The joys of small town life!

officers are usually sent first to check out the situation and if the line is still open the call taker is updating the call with information such as sounds being heard or voices etc. once the officer arrives and determines there is or is not a problem then they would call out for assistance from other police or the fire department/ambulance. if the call is disconnected during this time then the call taker would call back to see if anyone will answer, if the line is busy then the operator is called to break the line if possible.

My understanding is that an officer will respond to any 911 call that is either hung up on or left with an open line but no response. The police are obligated to check because the caller might be in a position where they are unable to speak, reach the phone, respond to questions, etc.

I personally know of three incidents where the police responded on hang-ups and arrived just in time to prevent serious injury. Better to check and be sure than to not nd have the person end up injured.

I have dealt with this i used to dispatch police and fire units, and we do do a research call like mentioned above, and even if the phone is answered we still send a police unit in case. If no answer is recieved we send a full call. That is police, ambulance, fire engine, and ladder truck is the building is more than one story. If it is found to be a false alarm there are fines and such that can be applied.

The police and an ambulance. The police usually respond to all 911 calls. And they would assume you were incapacitated, thus the ambulance. The same thing applies if you connect to 911 and then yank the phone cord out of the wall.

Well, that's really up to the local jurisdiction. Here in California, they usually send the police or the sheriff to check things out. However, they usually try to have an operator call back and get somebody on phone first to see if everything is okay rather than sending an officer out.

I used to work as a dispatcher for a sheriff's department and when we'd get a call where no one said anything we'd send at least one deputy out to check. Pretty much no matter what we'd send a deputy out with the exception of a small child calling, if we could get an adult on the line to confirm it was a mistake we'd cancel the call. Any other sounds, moaning, yelling, or anything like that, a couple of deputies were sent out.

they would call the number back to see if they can reach anyone and if no one responds they would send an officer out to check the scene and evaluate the situation. that is only if you are calling from a landline. if calling from a cell phone they would call the number back but if no one answers there really isn't too much they can do at that point since the caller did not give any information or state they had an emergency.

keep in mind that calling 911 when it is not an emergency is a lawful offense.

They would sent a police officer to investigate. The cop would then call in whatever resource necessary. If there is any doubt the cop responds first as he/she is responsible to ascertain that the safety of the medic/fireman is assured.

I sure do hope so! I have seen on TV where they do have caller ID and if that's so, then they need to check it out because the person might not be able to speak for themselves, or they may be getting robbed and they wouldn't want to give it away...and the conversation would be being recorded....., giving them the eveidence they might need later.
