It is an interesting fact to note that the Hindu temples were looted & destroyed by all the conquers irrespective of the religion. Even the neighboring Hindu Kings also used to do the same because the kings and the elites used to store their wealth in the temples. The kings and the elites of all the big and small Indian states accumulated wealth by exploiting the poor and the low cast people. The few elites lead a very good life and the poor majority suffered and starved. The elite used to store the wealth in the temples so that the god fearing poor majority do dare to steal it from there; even if it meant that they starved to death. The elites of the neighboring kingdoms knew that the temples were used more as a bank (or a safe locker for storing wealth) than as a religious place. So, naturally they destroyed the temples in search of wealth. In many cases, the gold, silver and precious stones were hidden inside the wall or below the floor. A typical example of modern times discovery is the Sri Padmanabhan temple of Trivandrum, Kerala. So, there is no wonder that the temples were destroyed; you and I would do the same if we came to know about the possibility of a huge pile of treasure hidden in some place.

I hear the taj mahal was actually a hindu temple overrun by muslims. A lot of hindu temples were taken over and changed into muslim temples and I even read that there are secret doors all over the taj mahal that the indian government wont let people open because there are statues of hindu deities inside the walls and the indian govt doesnt want the secret to be revealed.

Err, "India", as a unified nation, was only created by the British, prior to that there were a series of nations constantly at war with each other.

As a matter of explicit fact, there were more Hindu temples destroyed by Hindus than by Non-Hindus (as in, Muslims, Christians, Jaidists, Sikhs, etc)

Malaysia demolishes century-old Hindu temple. April 21, 2006
Malaysian have demolished a century old Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur, bulldozed the building as devotees were crying and begging them to stop. Now the tmeple has been reduced to rubble. About 300 devotes were praying then the bulldozer moved in and took it down. They were forced to stop praying, and the Muslims preceeded to tear the temple down.

In India, the Vikramasli temple was razed to the ground in the 13th Century, and its foundation- stones thrown into the Ganges. According to scholar K.S. Lal, thousands of Hindu temples were destroyed and their stones used to build mosques.
Muslim scribes recount the detestation on a church in Georgia in 1551 by Safavid Shah Tahmasp. “The Shah and his nobles went to see the church and slew twenty priests and broke the bell of 17 maunds...and destroyed the doors of iron and gold and sent them to the treasury.”

Only when infidels surrendered could they preserve religious buildings, and then only if a clause specifically allowed them, but in that case modifications and improvements were prohibited. Furthermore, 11th Century jurist Abu Al-Hasan Al Mawardi wrote that non-Muslim dhimmis “are not allowed to erect new synagogues or churches in the territory of Islam and any built are to be demolished without compensation.”

The destruction of the two fifth-century Buddha statues lining Bamiyan Valley's soaring cliffs, in March 2001, came after a fatwa ordered by the Taliban that all Afghan “idols” be destroyed as anti-Muslim.

Islamists scholars supported the destruction of the Buddha statutes. Among the supporters was American Muslim, Sheikh Ali al-Timimi, who in July this year was sentenced by a judge in Virginia to life in prison because he worked to get a group of young Americans Muslims to obtain terrorists training so that they could go to Afghanistan and fight with the Taliban against the “infidels.” He wrote that there is “overwhelming evidence from the Quran and the Sunna where we have been commanded to destroy all images and flatten all graves.”

They are too many to post all. The Taj Mahal is a Hindu temple, not destroyed by the Muslims, but now they claim it is their. It is not. Many have been demolished and many will as long these msulims believe they have the right to control all people and their places of worship.

Just to name some others...Their creed dictated that in conquered regions, ancient religious sites be confiscated and infidels banned from using them. Thus, the Dome of the Rock was constructed on the ruins of the Temple Mount in 691 AD., Al-Aqsa Mosque over the Basilica of St. Mary in 712, AD, and the Grand Mosque of Damascus, was built over the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in 715 AD.
