I suggest you get yourself another doctor, this one is a real quack. You shouldn't be on any antidepressants for IBS, unless you are suicidial.

See the following websites; www.renewyourlife.com and ww.gutsolutions.com. There is a book that is on this site "Gut Solutions" I suggest you get, it will explain what you can do for IBS.

This is actually a pretty common treatment because it slows down digestion of food. Many drugs that treat IBS also are a combination of an anti-spasmotic and an anti-depressant.

Talk to your doctor if the dose is not working for you. He/she is not a "quack" though.

I agree with MadforMAC. If you are having issues with your bowel why in the world would this doc put you on anti-depressants? I dont know much about IBS, but it sounds VERY strange to me.

Did he specifically state the cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome was due to anxiety? Is that the reason for anti-depressant? If not, there are plenty of other medications more suitable, yes ask your doctor to prescribe something else.

I have IBS as well, and all I have is a prescription for an anti-spasmodic. Why does the doc have you on an anti-depressant?

Speak with your doctor about what is going on. See if there is something else that you can take for your IBS. Don't self medicate, you could up doing more harm than good.

Good luck.

I don't think you should be on anti depressants for IBS. It makes no sense!!

Talk to your doctor about reducing the dosage. Also ask about taking them at night instead -- that way the side effect of drowsiness doesn't affect you as much.
