It may be, but a few things may need to be ruled out first. GERD can cause chest pain and is caused by diet (fried foods, acidic foods like spaghetti sauce and pizza), smoking, drinking pop, obesity and inactivity. Does your throat get hoarse? Does eating make the pain better or worse? Also, if this hasn't been done already you may want to get a test for H. Pylori, a bacteria that causes ulcers.

Yes, that's what it sounds like. My girlfriend and her son has had the gerd. To much acid in the stomach. When it churns up the little valve that keeps food down is helpless. The acids flare up the esophogous and gives you horrible chest pains. Feels like a heart attack. It actually burns your esophogous, too. Medications such as Nexium has helped, but there are other medicines that help, too. Convince your doctor that you have the symptoms of the Gerd. Don't eat spicy foods for a little while. No orange juice or foods that are high in acids for a bit till you get it intact. Slow down on the sodas , too.

The throat swelling does not appear to be a symptom of GERD. However GERD can cause heartburn among other pain in the upper G.I tract. I'm sure your doctor has already done an endoscopy, but if not, find a doctor that will. Good Luck.

Sounds to me like you definitely have GERD. If i'm right, your symptoms will be worse after a heavy meal. Go back to your doctor and tell him what you think. He should prescribe you a PPI (proton pump inibitor) such as lansoprazole or omeprazole, which will ease your symptoms and eventually cure your GERD. Get well soon.

This book is probably the most informative and practical guide on the subject of acid reflux and heartburn that I have ever read https://tr.im/acidrefluxremedies
I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple. Apple juice is not that good nor is anything else I have tried including honey at stopping reflux.

Yes. You need to keep careful records of what you're eating, and when you have these symptoms. You may be able to pinpoint certain food items that cause the reflux and avoid them.
