Man, if you haven't had a show handling class or done research on it...they can eat you alive!!!!!!!!!! You have to know that patterns the judge may ask, where to position your dog, how to stack your dog, when to go back into the ring. There is a lot to it and some judges are NOT great when it comes to the novice!!!! Hopefully you are entered in the novice or puppy classes. Judges are more forgiving there.
Check the breed standard for grooming. Most standards cover what kind of trimming and grooming is allowed.
At the very least, the dog should be well behaved around other dogs. If you dog is straining to get at the other dogs while going around the ring, the judge will most likely decide then and there that your dog will NOT be getting a placement today!!!!!!!!
If the dog is really bad, you can be excused and that goes on the dogs show record!!!!!
Take a handling class!! They are way worth it!!!!!!!!!!!

Real show or a match show?????? What was the location of the show?????????

You will need to be taking some handling classes and your dog will need to be practicing in some classes also.
To go in cold you are going to have a hard time.
Get into some classes and get some experience. Dog show people can be really tough to deal with and are sort of snotty at times.
They do soe great junior handling classes and they provide a great way to learn how and what you need to do and how to teach your dog what he needs to know also.

they must stand very still when the judge is inspecting them.try not to let it get to excited, and jump, or try to play. the judge will also want you to walk it a few yards, turn and come back. once you see what the others do, it is easy enough. just hope the dog isn't too affectionate, and wants to give everybody a kiss.

Just keep him comfortable. It will be a new environment. And well brushed.
