Black cat's hair is matting all of a sudden.

I had a cat that did the same thing as Summer came on every year. I think it was a combination of Winter shedding and Summer's heat causing stickiness and her skin underneath to perspire, making mats. Be ready with the brush early-it was a horrible mess I'd have to cut through with a scissors if I let it go too long.

Take the cat to the vet. A surprising substitute in hair coat like that oftentimes potential there is a few thing taking place. do no longer attempt to cut back the mats off with scissors. I actual have helped suture up too many cats that had huge lacerations from the vendors attempting to cut back mats off their cat and reducing the cat.

You cat is shedding and not grooming itself. Are you combing your cat? Is this a long haired cat?

Without proper combing a long haired cat will mat up even if it is grooming itself.

If your cat is short haired and matted, see a vet. Your cat is most probably ill.

it's shedding its winter coat and you aren't brushing it. no matter how much a cat can groom itself, when a long haired cat is shedding, it needs help from the owner too or it will mat. then the mats tighten up and pull on the skin and puts them in pain. if you can't get the mats out, take them to a dog groomer who will groom cats as well or to the vets and they will get rid of the mats for you. if you decide to try and cut them out yourself, please please please be careful. a cat's skin is paper thin and can very easily be cut even with dull scissors.

Your cat may be ill, and it may not be grooming itself. If the hair gets too matted, it'll hurt the cat (as if someone were constantly pulling it). Bring the cat to the vet if the problem worsens.
