I used to dye my hair alot but I have stopped doing that for a couple of months now. I notice that I have an abundance of gray hairs that itches. Is it possible that gray hairs can cause itchiness?

I am not sure about after dying your hair. But my grandfather (now deceased) told me that a long time ago when he started having grey hairs, they keep itching and his barber said it was true that grey hairs itch, so my grandfather wanted them to shave his head all the time. That was his solution.
I'm kind of sure that you probably don't want to shave yours but that is my story. I'm not sure how else I could help. This is just a story of my grandfather's experience. As far as I know, no one else in my family complained of itchy grey hairs.

Yes! I can tell when I have a grey hair growing in because it itches! I only have about 20-30 now, so I can pull them, but am worried about getting more! If anyone has a solution, I'd love to hear it.

I'm 37 and have a grey streak that's been getting more prominent the last few years. My scalp itches only where that streak is coming from. I've never heard anyone else talk about this - it itches now, that's why I looked it up.

No, it's NOT the grey hair. I believe you're seeing some chemical changes that come with age. The skin is dryer than it once was and that certainly includes the scalp. You can try using a conditioner for your hair that may help the itch on the scalp.

no gray hairs don't itch, but it could be the shampo that you use on your hair. If you have used the same shampo for a couple of years, then change to a differnet shampo this can make your head itch.

Yes it does! I am getting white hair and my head itches like crazy! I use Head and Shoulders Shampoo and am frustrated because that is what the doctors recommend. Also I am getting some in the back of my head where I can't see them to pluck them...It is driving me nuts! Lol

As far as I know, no, or I would be scratching myself silly at this point.
If you have hairs that are itching you might want to consult a doctor. Something does not seem right there...

I told my hairdresser that my roots itch when my dyed hair grows out (of course, the hair growing out is gray). It only itches about two weeks before I have to re-dye my hair again. My hairdresser said that other clients have also told her that their gray hair itches.

I have noo clue because I have no gray hairs. Sorry. But my parents have gray hair, and I have never heard from them that their...hairs itch *snickers**laughs*.
