The cheapest way that I have found - depending on the amount - is to wire the money from a bank [good for larger amts] .. It was $30 for the money wire and the exchange rate was a little better than at an ATM, Travelers Checks or Cash.. Western Union was a major league rip off - taking like a 25% bite out of the exchange rate.. If this is going to be smaller amounts and a regular thing - most people set up an account and leave an ATM card for the Thai person to use when needed..

If you are talking about small amount, you can mail it by registered mail. This works pretty well and ensures the mail gets to the recipient. As long as the money is concealed and not visible when the package is help up to light.
The other will be your personal account and using the ATM to withdraw in Thailand. This is cheaper than wire transfer as the admin charge per transaction is quite low.
Or the reverse where you open an account in Thailand and you can deposit into the account from same bank overseas. You need the bank book and can leave the ATM card in Thailand.
Wire transfer will be the safest if you are doing large amount. The service charge as mentioned will be about $30 per transaction.
So, choice is yours.

you can't get cheap and secure together. Send by mail and you have about an 80 percent chance it gets there. Best idea is either western union or money transfer to a bank account in Thailand.

I can think of 3 ways to send money securely to Thailand............(1)Get the person's Major creditcard account number...and call customer service. The card company will credit the creditcard after you go to the bank where the person's checking acct. is amd deposit the money into the person's checking.......(2)Send travelers' cheques by going to www.AAA.com. (3) Have the person go to the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. Once verified, you are able to wire the money to there for the person...kinda like Western Union.

I send money by bank transfer. Of course, whoever you're sending money to has to have an account with a Thailand bank. It will cost about $30 and take a few days to be transferred. You will need account name, number, branch number and adress and swift code.
