Faux pas means literally "false step" and is used when a person does or says something not appropriate.
Haute couture refers to the designer custom made clothes (goes with extremely expensive and extravagant :-))

Faux Pas - means you made a mistake. It's just a fancy way of saying it.

Haute Couture - means high fashion. Usually used in regards to a one of a kind article of clothing made by any well known designer.

haute couture, according to dictionary.com, means trend-setting fashions, high fashion, high style. Many of the top designers have a haute couture line...it's a bit off the wall styles that the typical person would not really wear...it's all about artistic expression rather than wearability.

HAUTE COUTURE can be translated as HIGH TAILORING --> dressing for the rich and chic people.. (Think it like HIGH SOCIETY)
